Assoc Prof Dr.Zain Bin Kandar , MY















Dr. Mohd. Zin graduated with B. Sc. (Hons) in Housing, Building & Planning from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) in 1984. He obtained B. Arch. (Hons.) in 1988 and Ph.D. (Energy Management and Audit) in 1994 from the University of Liverpool, UK.
He has taught architecture course at the School of Housing Building and Planning USM from 1994 to 2006 and later joined Architecture Department, Faculty of Built Environment Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) Johore in March 2006.

Dr. Mohd Zin had working experiences in architectural firms in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia (1984-86). He was also awarded PAM (Malaysian Institute of Architect) travel scholarship to Australia in 1984.

He was appointed as a Task Manager of the Professional Sector of the Centre for Education and Training in Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (CETREE) at USM in the year 2000 and responsible for the development of the Standard Syllabus of Energy Management Training Scheme (a proposed standard syllabus for Energy Officers and Energy Managers for Malaysia). Dr. Mohd Zin hold Deputy Director post of CETREE from 2003-2005 and involved on developing syllabus, speakers of awareness and training on Energy Efficiency & Renewable Energy to school children, teachers, media reporters and general public. He was also one of the speakers of a Training Program on Integrated Energy Building Design for professionals and the Coordinator of USAINS-AUFSDC training program on building construction and facility maintenance for contractors from 2002-2005. He was also involved in several technical committees in Energy Efficiency, Energy Management and Energy Audit at national level namely Malaysia Energy Centre (PTM) and the Energy Commission (ST).

Currently he teaches Architecture course, Environmental Studios and Supervising Research students on topics related to Sustainable Architecture & Energy Efficiency at undergraduate and postgraduate level. He is also currently working on several research projects on Energy Management Program, Daylighting on Government Building, Environmental & Sustainable Architecture. He also hold administrative post as Head of Department Postgraduate & Research at Faculty of Built Environment, appointed since October 2009.
